Call your tax professional. If you have an accountant or tax professional who completes your taxes for you, call and ask them what the appropriate deadlines are for your extension. They should know this information or have it readily available to assist you.

Check out the Internal Revenue Service website (see below). This is a great resource for general federal tax information. If you have any questions you can call the tax office or email them, though when it is close to the filing deadline, it could take an extended amount of time to get a response and long hold times on phone calls.

Visit your local Internal Revenue Service for federal information or state department of revenue office for state and local tax information. Again, if it is close to the filing deadline lines at the information desk could be long. Most offices contain forms that are displayed in the lobby for self service. Look carefully among these documents to find extension deadline information.

Read the forms carefully. If you already have the tax extension forms the deadline will be either on the front of the first form or in the instructions section of the forms. If you have already turned the form in, you should have made a copy for your records, or you can use one of the methods featured in the other steps.
