1
Understand that a player must develop a reputation when new to a street basketball court. New players have no history and they must prove that they have "game". If they prove their basketball worth, these players will be picked for games in the future.
-
2
Know that each court has their individual "house" rules. Learn to play by these rules and the game of street ball will be a much easier game.

-
3
Recognize that each player calls his own fouls. There are no referees' at most street basketball games, so it is up to players to call fouls. It's also the right of the other team to contest those calls. Some courts operate on the credo of "No blood, no foul," so be aware of the unofficial rules for each court.
-
4
Observe a few games at the street basketball court before participating in a contest. This will give a person a better idea of how the game of street basketball is conducted.
-
5
Pass the ball to the open man and take the open shot. If a player is open and does not get the ball this can cause the non-passing player to be frozen out of the street basketball game. When the player has an open shot themselves and does not take it, this player will be seen as scared or nervous. Participation in future games is not likely for this player.
