How to Join a Gay Youth Organization
Finding an organization where you are accepted and can be yourself is easy with the various support and advocacy groups available around the country. If you're looking for others who share your lifestyle and know what it's like to be gay, consider joining a gay youth organization for support and friendship.

1
Determine what you want from an organization. If you are already outwardly proactive for gay rights and your lifestyle is common knowledge, you will benefit from an organization that works towards establishing equal rights. If you're still unsure how family and friends will receive your sexuality, a support group where you can discuss your feelings with others going through the same thing will be helpful.
-
2
Ask your gay friends what groups they enjoy. Word-of-mouth is a great way to learn which groups are right for you.

3
Talk to your school counselor about organizations in your area. Trained to help gay and lesbian students find support and friendship, school counselors can point you towards groups where you will join other gay students.

4
Call a hotline that serves gay youth across the nation. "Youth Talking" is there to answer your questions during the evening hours from 9:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. Their number is (800) 96YOUTH. Interacting with others who know how you feel, even by phone, will be of help.

Search online for a gay youth organization in your state. Youthresource.com maintains a searchable database of groups in every state and you can choose from different programs (See Resources).
