Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Keep the possibility of losing open. Most of the conceited prom kings go into the dance arrogantly assuming that they will be crowned king. To stay humble in case you win, go into the prom not expecting to win the competition but just wanting to have a good time. Acknowledging the possibility that someone else might be king is the first step to staying humble.
Step2
Make a humble speech. While you should thank various people, including everyone in the crowd, for voting for you, you shouldn't ramble on for ten minutes about the thrill and experience. Keep in mind that after you are crowned king most of the prom-goers just want to get back to the dance, rather than listen to speeches of social glory. So, be grateful and brief as you accept your honor.
Step3
Take the crown off. It's one thing to wear your prom king crown while you're accepting the honor and during the first dance. It's quite another thing to wear the crown all night long, including after the prom, as if someone made you the king of an empire. Take the crown off as soon as you can to be a humble prom king.
Step4
Put the prom in perspective. Perspective is a difficult thing to achieve but it's crucial if you want to stay humble. Keep in mind during your reign as prom king that basically no one will remember that you were prom king in five or ten years, and the people that do remember won't really care. You should enjoy being prom king, and you should accept it as an honor, but don't let it go to your head.
