MADD or Mother's Against Driving Drunk hopes to eliminate the tragedy of drunk driving. MADD has grown into one of the most supported and well-known non-profit organizations since its inception in 1980. MADD members talk to children to encourage them not to drink and drive, support victims of drinking and driving and lobby legislators for tougher laws. Follow these steps to start a local MADD chapter.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use your computer to log on to MADD's website.

  2. Step 2

Click on "Get Local." Choose your state from the drag-down menu. Scroll down the list to see if there's a chapter near you.

  3. Step 3

Contact MADD, if there isn't a chapter in your area. Call (800) GET-MADD (800) 438-6233.

  4. Step 4

Write MADD's National Office at 511 East John Carpenter Freeway Suite 700,
    Irving, TX 75062.

  5. Step 5

Express your interest in starting a local MADD chapter. Ask a representative what you need to do to make that happen.

  6. Step 6

Garner support from others. You can't have a group if it's just you who wants to be involved. Get friends and family members who want to be involved.

  7. Step 7

Find a meeting place. Ask churches, community and civic groups if they'd donate their public meeting space for your MADD meeting.
