Step 1
Use both paper invitations and word-of-mouth to make sure that people know not to bring alcohol to your party. Preventing alcohol from showing up in the first place is the simplest way of keeping your event fun and safe. It's also less awkward than turning a keg-carrying friend away at the door.
-
Step 2
Check the guests for alcohol as they arrive. Having a parent or neighbor act as a doorman provides you with an extra measure of security and makes your guests more likely to respect your teetotaling policy.
-
Step 3
Avoid inviting friends or acquaintances whom you know to be heavy drinkers. Even if they know not to bring alcohol to the party, they might show up after drinking somewhere else.
-
Step 4
Host your party in a restaurant or public space where alcohol is prohibited. This not only takes the pressure of enforcing sobriety off of you, but it also makes it easy for you to plan catering, karaoke and other party specifics.
-
Step 5
Provide a wide variety of tasty non-alcoholic beverages and treats. If you're not much of a cook, consider having your party catered by a local restaurant you and your friends enjoy. Good food is a key component of any party, but it's especially important when high schoolers are involved. Their appetites are huge.
-
Step 6
Hire out inflatables or other large-scale party attractions to keep your friends entertained. Sumo rings, moonbounces and other festive novelties add a unique element to your after-prom party that more than compensate for the lack of alcohol.
