Travel to New Orleans, Louisiana. You can fly in or drive. The city has an international airport called Louis Armstrong International Airport. Highway I-10 passes right by the city. The Faubourg Marigny area covers the area from the Mississippi River to Press Street to Esplanade Avenue, creating a triangular neighborhood with lots of the action on Frenchmen Street.

Make reservations. Certain times of the year it can be impossible to get a last minute hotel room, like during Mardi Gras and the Jazz Festival. A'Etienne's and the Claiborne Mansion are bed-and-breakfast inns in the Faubourg Marigny district.

Grab a bite to eat. Faubourg Marigny has a variety of restaurants with many offering traditional Creole and Cajun cuisine. Listen to music in a local club. The Spotted Cat is a little nightspot that has jazz and the Apple Barrel has blues performers, while Snug Harbor is a more famous place for listening to contemporary jazz. There's also reggae music down at the Caribbean style Café Negril.

Visit the local shops. Drop in at the Island of Salvation Botanica, a local Voodoo supply store. Next go to the Venusian Gardens, an art gallery built in a renovated church, or browse through the books at the Iron Rail Bookstore and Library.
