How to Sneak Out of the Prom

Prom is an exciting dance with good music, all your friends and even decent food. Still, sometimes when it's time to leave, it's time to leave, especially as prom-night house parties are springing up like mushrooms after a heavy rain. If you need to sneak out of the prom, just follow these steps and you'll be as stealthy as an overdressed ninja.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Figure out who's watching. There are probably a few different people watching to see if you're staying or leaving. The key to success is to avoid detection by all of them. Check out if there are chaperones (and whether they care if you leave). Also, make sure other prom-goers, ex-boyfriends or ex-girlfriends or unwanted tag-alongs don't spot you as hatch your exit plan.

  2. Step 2

Coordinate with others leaving. Chances are that you're not sneaking out of prom alone. You should make a plan of when each member of the group leaves and where you'll meet once you've made it out. Ideally, you should leave one at a time so that if someone gets caught they can use a personal excuse such as a bathroom break or emergency call. Also, this way one person getting caught won't get everyone else in trouble.

  3. Step 3

Find the exits. A back door is always the best exit strategy. However, it's also risky since many back doors and side doors are armed with emergency alarms or lead to inconvenient places. Scout out some of the alternate exits so you can use one of them if it works out. If not, then start thinking about the main exit.

  4. Step 4

Make or use a distraction. If you can successfully create a distraction to buy you time as you sneak out, then you're golden. However, this is difficult. Instead, use a the onset of a popular song or, better yet, an event such as the crowning of prom king and queen to sneak out as all eyes are turned away. Be quick and confident by keeping a walking pace and acting as if you're stepping out for just a second.
