How to Find Teacher Assistant Jobs

Teacher assistants are persons who provide aid to the head teacher in a classroom. The teacher assistant may need to tutor the children or simply lend a hand by performing clerical tasks for the teacher. This rewarding position appeals to people who wish to start a career in the field of education.

  1. Step 1

    Inquire at area preschools about teacher assistant jobs. Preschools are the best places to look for a teacher assistant position. Most preschools employ one to two teacher assistants for each classroom.

  2. Step 2

    Put in applications at several different school districts. Apply at all local school districts for a teacher assistant job. Most teacher assistant jobs are not going to be found at a high school or middle school level. They are most often employed as aides to elementary school teachers.

  3. Step 3

    Call other facilities to find out if they have teacher assistant positions. Other possible places that hire teacher assistants are churches, daycare centers, charter schools and private schools.

  4. Step 4

    Look through the classified ads. Search the employment section of all the local newspapers. Also, run a search online at Career Builder and Monster.com.

  5. Step 5

    Ask for references. Talk to any parents that you know about possible teacher assistant positions in their children's school or extracurricular programs.

  • Most teacher assistants are required to have some form of formal education following high school graduation. Many organizations require two years of college courses.
