Step 1
Make a workout routine that keeps things interesting. Vary it every other day so you don't get bored.
-
Step 2
Alternate your gym workout between cardio and weights. Plan which days you'll focus on cardio and which days you'll work on strengthening your muscles.
-
Step 3
Circuit train. Moving from machine to machine will keep your workout fun. Work on your upper body one day and your lower body the other. Or, use every machine every day to keep things moving.
-
Step 4
Decide which machine or exercise is your favorite. Plan to do it at a time that's the most motivating. You may need to do it first to give yourself a reason to go to the gym or last to get you through the rest of your workout.
-
Step 5
Work out with a buddy. Not only does it make it more fun to have someone to talk and sweat with, but your friend can motivate you on days you don't feel like going to the gym.
-
Step 6
Sign up for classes at your gym. Whether it's spinning, yoga or aerobics, classes mix up your typical gym workout and give you something different to look forward to.

on 9/19/2009 "Fun" is usually good. But another way to make you gym time "fun" is to see results. Nothing will keep a person hitting the gym more than a seeing real changed in how you feel and look. That is one of the reason I strongly urge a couple (or more sessions) with a CERTIFIED personal trainer not only to set up a program..that becomes easy over time but to have someone really hammer home the concept that form is critical to achieving results. As an AFAA certified trainer I still have my form examined and CORRECTED on a regular basis by another trainer. Also, I firmly believe that trainers need to be college grads with an appropiate degree or certified by a leading training organization. "Trainers" should not be just someone with an level of enthusiasm and jacked up body. Education and knowledge are mandatory.

on 9/18/2009 Some great alternatives would be to take a class. Something like dance class, or kickboxing. They get you up and moving, they're fun, and you learn soemthing! Nice article, 5*s
