The first date is an opportunity to test the waters, get to know someone and see if there's any connection. First dates can be an interesting experience. Whether it ends up being a love story for the future children or the funniest story of all time, you need to remember that first dates throw you into intimate situations with strangers. Follow these steps to be safe on a first date.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Go out with a group. It's safe to have other people around for a first meeting. Bring along mutual friends.
Step2
Meet at a public place. If you don't have any friends on common, make sure you're first date is somewhere with a lot of people around. Think of a movie theater, bowling alley, restaurant or amusement park.
Step3
Avoid having your date pick you up or drop you off at your house. It's not a good idea until you know the person better to give him your address.
Step4
Use your own vehicle to get around. This includes to and from the date, along with any additional stops you both make. It isn't safe to ride alone in a car with someone you just met.
Step5
Pay for half of the first date. By paying for yourself, you're sending the message that the first date is for meeting and getting to know each other only. It gives you some control.
Step6
Tell a friend where you're going and who you're meeting. Someone should always know where you are and how to get a hold of you. Have your friend call you while you're on the date to make sure you're okay.
Step7
Limit the amount of alcohol you drink on a first date. You need to have your cognitive abilities to make decisions. Keep your glass within your sights to make sure your date doesn't slip anything into it. Cover the top with your hand.

Tips & Warnings

  • Even if you know the person, you should be somewhat defensive during your first date, just in case.
  • Make sure your date doesn't follow you home if the date goes badly.
  • Use your friend's call as an excuse to leave if the date isn't going well.
