How to Ring Two Handbells in One Hand
So you've been playing the handbells for a couple of Christmas performances at your church and you'd like to play a more difficult handbell choir piece. Ringing two handbells with one hand, or four-in-hand ringing, is required for some more elaborate music with a smaller handbell choir. Here's how to ring two handbells in one hand so you can play those more elaborate handbell pieces.

1
Hold one bell in the normal position. This will be the bell played most often in the music.
-
2
Grab the other bell in such a way that the edge of the bell handle of the bell you were holding first lays across the flat part of the handle of the bell you are picking up.
-
-
3
Put your index finger between the two bell casings. The fist bell you were holding should be in almost normal ringing position.
-
4
Ring the first bell by using the normal ringing position. If you're having trouble with the other bell ringing as well, cheat a little and ring slightly more toward the center of your body.
-
5
Play the second bell by turning your hand with your knuckles facing up then act as if you are knocking on a door.
-
6
Damp notes with a finger of the opposite hand if you find damping the notes difficult. Don't get discouraged if you have to damp the note a little late.
