How to Set a Homepage in Internet Explorer

A homepage is the page that is displayed when you first open up your browser. Whether you choose to set your homepage to your email, a search engine or your favorite blog, you will need to follow a few steps to set your homepage. The steps below will guide your through setting your homepage in Internet Explorer.

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Explorer 6 or 7
  1. Step 1

    Open your Internet Explorer browser by choosing it from your Start menu or double-clicking on the shortcut icon.

  2. Step 2

    Choose the "Tools" menu and click on "Internet Options" to open the "Internet Options" dialog box. The "Internet Options" dialog box contains all the settings related to security, privacy and other options that you can change for your browser.

  3. Step 3

    Click the "General" tab, if necessary, at the top of the "Internet Options" dialog box to view the general settings for Internet Explorer.

  4. Step 4

    Locate the "Home page" section of the "General" tab of the "Internet Options" dialog box. Here is where you set the home page for your Internet Explorer browser.

  5. Step 5

    Type in the address you want to set your homepage to in the "Address" text box or alternatively use the buttons below the text box to set your homepage. The "Use Current" button to set the browser homepage to the page you are currently at, click the "Use Default" button to set the browser homepage to the default homepage that was originally set in your browser, or click the "Use Blank" button to set the homepage to a blank page.

  6. Step 6

    Use your mouse to click the "OK" button to close the "Internet Options" dialog box and set your homepage.

  7. Step 7

    Close and reopen Internet Explorer. Your homepage should now be set to the website you specified in the previous steps.
