Vaginal dryness is a problem many women face, oftentimes during menopause. Fortunately, there are many treatment options, and you don't have to live with discomfort. Treatments range from over-the-counter medications to prescriptions from your doctor. Find one that works for you and be comfortable once more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Personal lubricant
  • Moisturizing cream
  • Prescribed medications
Step1
Use a personal lubricant during sex. This important step will make sex less painful for you since it will reduce friction. It can also have the added benefit of increasing your sensitivity.
Step2
Apply a moisturizing cream especially if your vaginal dryness persists outside of sexual activity. These creams are usually applied 2 or 3 times a week and will increase the moisture in the vagina over a period of time.
Step3
Have more sex with lots of foreplay. Increased sexual activity over time can stimulate the vagina to produce more moisture daily. Foreplay can help your body produce moisture to prepare for sex.
Step4
Do Kegel exercises regularly. These exercises are designed to increase the muscular strength of the pelvic floor. They will increase the blood flow to the tissues of the vagina making it healthier, which leads to more moisture.
Step5
Talk to your doctor about hormone replacement therapy or other prescription medications. If you've tried over-the-counter remedies and you're facing menopause, you might need something stronger to treat vaginal dryness. Be honest with your doctor about your symptoms and get a prescription to help with the problem.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always use a water-based lubricant. Also try to find one that's slightly acidic to match the acidity of the vagina. These can be found at any local pharmacy.
  • Drink plenty of water to help treat vaginal dryness. Not only will this help with vaginal moisture but it will improve your overall health.
  • Avoid unnecessary dyes and fragrances in products you use near the vagina. This includes tampons, douches, pads, sprays, soaps and even laundry detergents.
