1
Designate the area which will be your flower bed. Carefully pull up any weeds and grass around the flower bed, then put down a layer of mulch or stones, whatever you choose.
-
2
Purchase weed barrier fabric from your local landscaping supply store or building supply store.
-
-
3
Cut the weed barrier fabric into the necessary lengths, and stake it around the flower bed. The fabric will block the sunlight, preventing weeds from growing.
-
4
Create a natural weed barrier out of newspaper and wood shavings. Use newspaper that doesn't have any colored inks, and lay it all around the outside of your flower bed. Cover the newspaper with wood shavings.
-
5
Use black plastic landscape fabric as a weed barrier. Install it in the same manner as the weed barrier fabric. This also blocks out the sunlight, preventing weeds from growing.
-
6
Put old aluminum or vinyl siding out as a weed barrier. Prepare the ground in the same manner as in Step One. Since you will cover it with mulch or stones, you won't be able to see the old siding once the weed barrier has been installed around your flower bed.
-
7
Lay whichever weed barrier material you choose down within the bed itself. Poke, drill or otherwise make holes for your flowers to grow through.
