Dress a Crawling Baby

When your baby begins to crawl, it's important to dress her in clothes that allow her complete freedom of movement. Follow these steps to appropriately clothe your little one as she begins to explore the big world around her.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase clothing with non-slip material on the portions of the clothing that are affected by crawling, including the knees, elbows, feet bottoms and toes. This material will give your baby a little extra padding and the traction she needs when learning to crawl.

    • 2

Dress your crawling baby in overalls, which are roomy and durable, allowing your baby plenty of freedom to move in clothing that will withstand a lot of wear and tear.

    • 3

Ensure the clothing you purchase is made from tough fabrics, including denim and corduroy. Your crawling baby will spend a lot of his time moving around on the ground, which can damage or stain delicate fabrics.

    • 4

Clothe your crawling baby in pants that are form-fitting and not too baggy. Baggy pants can bunch at your baby's knees, which will make it difficult for her to move around.

    • 5

Buy pants with elasticized cuffs, which will prevent the pants from riding up when your baby crawls around.

    • 6

Consider purchasing knee pads for your crawling baby and dress him in them to protect his knees from bumps, scrapes and bruises while he's moving around on rough surfaces.

Tips & Warnings

  • Babies learn to crawl and walk best barefoot. So, weather permitting, leave off your baby's socks and shoes while she's crawling around the house.

  • Avoid clothing your crawling little girl in dresses, which impede movement when the fabric gets stuck under her knees.
