Step1
Obtain a license as a real estate broker or salesperson in your state. Or work in the real estate field in any capacity to be considered for membership in the National Association of Realtors.
Step2
Join a local real estate association or board. Affiliation with a local association or board of realtors extends your membership to the National Association of Realtors.
Step3
Pay the annual membership dues to the National Association of Realtors. The annual dues for 2007 is $64 and will be $80 in 2008. This is in addition to the dues you owe to your local association.
Step4
Adhere to the standards of practice and strict code of ethics put forth by the National Association of Realtors. You can find a list of the standards and code of ethics on the organization's website.
Step5
Register on the National Association of Realtors website to access members-only sites and take advantage of educational and professional seminars and courses to further your real estate career.
Step6
Continue to work in the real estate field, maintain membership in your local association, pay your dues and follow the standards of practice and code of ethics to maintain your membership.
