Advanced weapon training in Modern Army Combatives helps to build the skill and the intuitive responses necessary to successfully terminate a threat on the battlefield. Weapons training also helps to instill the aggressive nature in the soldier that is necessary on all levels of combat. Here are a few hints that will help you to train to take your bayonet and knife training to the next level.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Train with a partner of equal skill level to get the most out of weapons training. The objective in a sparring match is not to dominate but for both parties to grow as fighters.

  2. Step 2

    Practice diligently to understand the principles of different attacks and defenses so that the movements and techniques become second nature.

  3. Step 3

    Get comfortable with the techniques to the point that you don't consider the technique while engaging in it, rather you flow from form to form naturally.

  4. Step 4

    Feel free to improvise as you begin to get comfortable with weapon techniques. History is full of warriors who improved upon and expanded the art of weapons fighting.

  5. Step 5

    Remember the golden rule of weapons training: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Your sparring partner is your buddy not the enemy, so treat him as such.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always keep your thumbs and fingers tucked to prevent an opponent from getting hold of one of these easy to break joints.
  • Train strikes and take downs at reduced speed and with protective padding. It is important to realize that while strikes are an ineffective way to subdue an opponent they are a part of fights. Safe training of striking techniques is reserved for advanced studies of Modern Army Combatives.
  • Do not practice Modern Army Combatives without proper supervision.
  • When practicing take downs both fighters should start on their knees to prevent injury.
