Step 1
Attend law school. To be an attorney of any kind you first need to attend and graduate from law school. If you are interested in being a district attorney, it is a good idea to do an internship with the local district attorney's office while studying at law school.
-
Step 2
Decide on where you want to practice law as a district attorney. This is an important step because there will be different methods for getting into that position in each state. You need to make the decision, then research that city to if there are any positions open and how that particular office handles the hiring process.
-
Step 3
Take the bar exam for the state you want to practice law in. This is an essential step in the process for any area of law, but is a good idea to do after you have decided where you want to practice law. To learn more about the bar exam in the state you are interested in taking it in, check out the bar exam website for that state.
-
Step 4
Apply for the district attorney job you are seeking. Contact the district attorney's office you are interested in working for and find out their hiring policies and the correct person to contact regarding a job. Before meeting with them, have a strong resume with cover letter and practice the interview with a friend.
