A timeless tradition in many homes is a cuckoo clock. It's an heirloom in many American families and some cuckoo clocks have been around for generations. Whether you want to restore an old cuckoo clock or you're decorating a new clock, a little bit of paint goes a long way. Read on to learn how to paint a cuckoo clock.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Identify the color you want to paint all the parts. Depending on the design of your cuckoo clock, you might want to vary your color palette to add extra emphasis in certain areas. Before you do anything, you need to determine the color scheme for your clock.

  2. Step 2

Purchase the paint. Acrylic paint is popular for crafts like this because it's available in small amounts and it dries quickly. When you're painting your cuckoo clock, only squeeze out small amounts at a time so your paint doesn't dry up.

  3. Step 3

Paint one color at a time. Your painting project will go much faster if you paint all of one color, clean up and then paint all of another color. It's best to start with the colors you use most, and end with the accent colors.

  4. Step 4

Use fine brushes for fine edges. This allows you to put two colors next to each other with a seamless transition. For straight lines, you can also use masking tape.

  5. Step 5

Add finishing products. You can give your cuckoo clock a more complete look with finishing paints like metallic, glitter and even glow in the dark.

  6. Step 6

Allow adequate time to dry. Usually, your clock can dry overnight and then it will be ready to display.
