Paula Abdul may be known as the soft, compassionate judge on the hit singing contest TV show "American Idol," but impressing her doesn't necessarily come easy. Paula reacts most positively to those who pay equal attention to their looks and overall performance as they do to their singing talent. If you want to impress Paula on "American Idol," be prepared to look like a star and not just sing like one.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Focus on your looks and take great care to look like a pop star. Paula will always comment that a contestant "looks great" if she does, and it will be used if a positive comment about singing talent cannot be given. A unique outfit can also be a great way to get a positive comment from Paula.

  2. Step 2

Smile a lot when you sing and be sure to appear that you are having fun. This will cause Paula to make positive comments about your personality and she may complement you by saying that you "made the song your own."

  3. Step 3

Use some choreography in your performance. As a professional choreographer, dancer and performer, Paula is impressed by those who choose to dance to add to their performance.

  4. Step 4

Choose an upbeat song and sing it well. One of the best compliments one can receive from Paula is seeing her stand up and dance during his performance.

  5. Step 5

Be unique enough to develop a fan base. Paula always notices which contestants have a good following and will complement you by saying that the people love you.
