How to Organize a St Patrick's Day Parade

St. Patrick's Day is a cherished holiday which is in honor of Saint Patrick who was credited for bringing Christianity to Ireland. Today we celebrate St. Patrick's Day and Ireland in tradition of spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide. Organizing a St. Patrick's Day Parade should celebrate the true essence and meaning of celebration in Irish tradition.

  1. Step 1

    Organize a committee and team of people to help you define, plan and execute plans to have a successful and fun St. Patrick's Day Parade.

  2. Step 2

    Plan day, time, location, start and end points. March 17th is the official day of St. Patrick's Day, so plan your parade around the actual day of celebration. Also coordinate times and locations to start and finish the parade.

  3. Step 3

    Promote and advertise the parade event. Let local media know to promote the parade and all important details.

  4. Step 4

    Coordinate business sponsors to support the parade and the event. Encourage businesses, schools or churches to create a unique and original float, carriage or spectacle to go in parade.

  5. Step 5

    Ask a local high school or college band to add hype and spirit to the parade. Also look for clowns, dancers or others get the crowd riled up.

  6. Step 6

    Invite the community to become part of the parade or come out to join in the festivities.

  7. Step 7

    Provide green and gold plastic jewelry, candy or other fun items into the crowd as each float passes by the on lookers.

  8. Step 8

    Obtain green hats, t-shirts and more to sell at stands along the parade path to encourage the crowd to purchase original St. Patrick's Day promotional products.

  9. Step 9

    Coordinate local vendors, businesses and residents to put out food stands or carts to sell food and drinks. Also encourage local crafters or churches to sell crafts and bake sale items that can be sold at the parade. Encourage them to make items in the spirit of Ireland and St. Patrick's Day.

  10. Step 10

    Get the kids involved with booths for face painting, games and other fun ways to help children learn about St. Patrick's Day.
