1
Use over-the-counter products for sensitive skin. These are much less stressful to the skin and just as effective. They may only take a little longer to see results. They are cheaper too.
-
2
Keep retinoid products away from air and light. Keep them in a very well-sealed container. This helps the product last longer. Air and light reduce the effectiveness of these products.

Get a prescription from your doctor for more drastic effects. If over-the-counter is not strong enough, try one of these. The most commonly prescribed are Renova and Avage. They may come in a gel or cream form. The doctor must decide which is best for your conditions--whether it is sun damage, dryness or wrinkles.

4
Be prepared for experimentation. Don't try a new product within a week or two of a big event such as a blind date, a wedding or class reunion. You never know how your skin might react, and a bad reaction to one of these products is not easily hidden.
-
5
Use the product at night right before bedtime. Once again, light such as sunlight can decrease the products effectiveness.
-
6
Be patient. It takes at least six weeks, and maybe up to 12, to see major results from the product. Plan ahead, and begin the product months before an important event.
