The Red Cross provides many services including disaster relief funds, service to the armed forces and international response fund. They also provide food to those who need it. If you are not in a position to make a monetary donation, donate food to the Red Cross. The following will provide you with information on how to donate perishable foods to the Red Cross.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a local branch of the Red Cross for you to donate the perishable food to. Not all branches are equipped to handle perishable food. If the one you call can't help you, they should be able to direct you to one that can help you.

  2. Step 2

Locate sites on the Internet that will tell you where you can donate the perishable food. Sometimes they will provide a local number you can call to find out the nearest Red Cross drop off point for perishable foods.

  3. Step 3

Purchase meats, turkeys and fish that are fresh or frozen. Select the items depending on their shelf life. If the Red Cross asks for it to be frozen take the fresh food and freeze it so it will have a longer life or just buy frozen foods.

  4. Step 4

Select dairy products and eggs that have the longest expiration dates. Deliverer these to the Red Cross immediately so they have the best chance of being put to good use before their expiration.

  5. Step 5

Pick out other perishable food such as bakery products, fruits and vegetables. Make sure you look for the expiration date and that you are prepared to deliver them to the Red Cross as quickly as possible. There isn't much use in donating perishable food that is going to spoil the same day. So take all these things into consideration before donating perishable foods to the Red Cross.
