Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Remove the old handle. The handle may have already broken off, but if not, it's usually a matter of twisting and pulling for full removal. Older umbrella handles may be screwed or glued in place. Choose the appropriate removal method for your particular umbrella handle.
Step2
Inspect the umbrella for manufacturer name or serial number. This information could be used to look up the company on the web and order a replacement part. Often this information will not be available or visible.
Step3
Take note of handle size, color, and material. This information can then be used to order a similar part from a larger umbrella manufacturer. Keep a hold of the broken umbrella handle for a visual reference. Remember that if your handle has a switch/release for automatic opening of the umbrella, that the new handle will need this feature also.
Step4
Look for a new handle. Using the Internet, research umbrella manufacturers who offer replacement parts. Many vendors will be able to direct you to the most appropriate business or individual.
Step5
Order replacement handle and wait for delivery. Hopefully the three- to five-day shipping time is not during a rainy season.
Step6
Replace umbrella handle. If it does not seem to fit or go on smoothly, do not force the handle. Contact the manufacturer to assist you. Otherwise, screw or pop on the new handle.
Step7
Enjoy your umbrella knowing that you saved money and reused an item that would have otherwise been discarded.
