Radiators are a necessity for staying warm on cool nights, but they tend to be unsightly sitting along the wall when not in use. It is possible to buy a variety of radiator covers. However, with a little creativity, it's not difficult to come up with innovative ways to camouflage the radiator. Try one of the following ideas to hide an unsightly radiator from view.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Build, or hire someone to build, a radiator cover out of wood. Basically the cover would be a box to place over the radiator. The box can be decorated to match the decor of the room, or the box can be covered with a tablecloth. The top of the box can be utilized as a table when the radiator is not in use.

  2. Step 2

Research companies that sell radiators. Some innovative companies have incorporated eye catching designs into the radiator systems, making them a piece of art rather than an eye sore.

  3. Step 3

Purchase an Oriental screen to place in front of the radiator. Some screens can be modified to hold photos or other pieces of memorabilia. The screen will become a treasured wall of memories rather than wasted area.

  4. Step 4

Enclose the radiator in a cabinet. Make sure the doors that hide the radiator are easily folded to the side while the radiator is in use. The cabinetry around the radiator will give the owner extra storage space. Some cabinets can be built with reflective surfaces surrounding the radiator. This surface will help the radiator heat more efficiently, while still looking stylish, and helping to easily hide away the radiator when not in use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to have the radiator camouflage inspected to make sure it is heat- and fire-resistant.
