1
Set up an eBay account. The first step is signing up to sell items. You'll need an account to begin your eBay venture and it gives you full access to the site.
-
2
Browse through recently ended auctions. Look at the items that others sold and the prices the items sold for. You can find like items and try to attract the people who didn't win one of the other recent auctions.
-
-
3
Look at current eBay auctions. Pick a category and see what items have been bid on, how many bids they've received and the amounts of the high bids. This will give you an idea of how many people are interested in certain items to help you ascertain its popularity and a typical going price.
-
4
Search through eBay's "Want It Now" listings. These are listings posted by people looking to buy specific items. This searchable section shows you what someone is looking to buy immediately. You might already have an item someone is looking for and you can make a list of the items to keep an eye out for while shopping for items to resell via an eBay auction. For more information about finding stuff to sell, read the eHow article, "How to Find Cheap Stuff to Resell on eBay."
-
5
Join eBay groups. This allows you to talk to other sellers and share selling tips and tricks.
-
6
Read the eBay Discussion Boards. Here you will find a section of community help boards, category specific discussion boards and general discussion boards to further enhance your knowledge about eBay and ask questions about items you want to sell.
-
7
Visit the eBay blog section. This allows you to do a little networking. It can also give you a place to ask questions, get advice, share good and bad selling situations and just get to know other eBayers. You can either start a new blog or respond to previous blogs.

8
Learn by trial and error. The longer you sell on eBay, the more you'll learn about what does well at auction. Pick some unusual items that you don't normally see a lot of and see if they sell. You might discover some surprising avenues to try. For example, vintage jigsaw puzzles do quite well. Not an item you'd immediately think of, but if you've got the right puzzle, it's in pretty good condition and all the pieces are included, then you could have a winner.
