How to Build a Snowboard Quarterpipe Wall

There's no doubt that snowboarding is fun, just look at how the sport has increased in popularity. But once you've mastered the hill and all it's challenges, try adding skateboarding tricks like riding on a quarterpipe and take it to the snow. It's sure to give you a thrill. Don't worry if you don't have a local ski area with a quarterpipe because you can build one yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a location where you can build the quarterpipe. The ideal location will use the natural advantages of the land to aid the building of the quarterpipe. An area with a small hill works well to build the ramp around.

    • 2

Design a plan for the quarterpipe, allowing enough area around the pipe for landing. On average, the ramp should be about 4 feet high, 4 feet wide, 8 feet long and have a landing pad that is 2 to 4 feet wide.

    • 3

Clear any debris or hazards from the area where the snowboarders will launch onto. Things to look for include rocks and other movable objects. For trees and other stationary objects, try to plan the ramp and its path around them.

    • 4

Bring in enough snow to build up the ramp of the snowboard quarterpipe on one side. Compact the snow as tightly as possible and try to mimic the natural curve that the ramp will follow when you sculpt and build the base.

    • 5

Build the top layers of the snowboard quarterpipe ramp by piling a foot of snow, misting it with water and applying another foot of snow, smoothing each layer down as you go. This creates the optimal snow and ice balance on the surface of the ramp.

    • 6

Monitor and maintain the snowboard quarterpipe. After a fair amount of use, the quarterpipe ramp may need to be groomed again following the layering process before you can snowboard on it again.
