You can use jewelry beads to make your own necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and other craft projects such as bookmarks and key chains. Use various shapes, sizes and textures of beads and follow the steps to create your own jewelry projects.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to bead shops and craft stores to find beads of all shapes, sizes, colors and materials. Also look at flea markets, garage sales, antique stores or online at websites such as eBay to find beads or old jewelry.

  2. Step 2

Compare and choose a variety of materials to create jewelry with texture and interest. You can find beads made from natural, wood, glass, ceramic, plastic, metal and metal plated materials.

  3. Step 3

Choose the size of beads you want for your project. Beads are generally 3 to 5mm and come in a variety of shapes including square and round. Choose a variety of shapes and sizes for best visual interest.

  4. Step 4

Look for specific colors and transparency for your jewelry project. Choose a monochromatic scheme, use complimentary colors or choose a random color scheme to compliment or contrast with your clothing or decor.

  5. Step 5

Search for unique and unusual beads such as birthstones or alphabet beads to add to your jewelry project. Personalize your jewelry by adding beads from a grandmother's old necklace or creating your initials within your project.

  6. Step 6

Buy high quality beads to ensure that your project lasts. These beads are more expensive than plastic children's beads, but don't tarnish or fade. Decide whether to use pure silver or silver plated beads, for example. Silver plated beads are cheaper but may tarnish quickly and lose their shine and color completely.
