Step1
Talk to your current employer about going part-time. Be clear about your expectations and set a firm schedule.
Step2
Search part-time job sites, regular job sites and local online help wanted ads, such as your local newspaper and Craig's List. Use the words "part-time" in the search criteria.
Step3
Start a consulting business. Find out what the licensing requirements are in your area. Put ads in local papers and Craig's List. Send letters to small companies that may not be able to afford full-time IT support.
Step4
Tell your relatives, friends and business contacts that you're looking for part-time work.
Step5
Visit the web sites of companies in your area that you're interested in working for. If they have part-time positions listed on their website, apply for them. If not, send them your cover letter and resume. Specify that you're looking for part-time work. Highlight the benefits of hiring a part-time employee, such as the fact that you don't require health insurance and can do a job quickly.
Step6
Apply in person at local companies. Bring your resume, references and contact information for former employers.
