Running a business that sells driveway gravel can be a challenging job. However, if you have steps to guide you through starting such a business, it will not only be easier but extremely profitable. The following steps will tell you how to start selling driveway gravel.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine if you have access to a gravel pit that you can either buy the gravel from, or rent the location for a certain amount monthly or yearly. Without such a source, you will be unable to sell driveway gravel. Gravel pits are usually located near a river or concrete plant. Most owners of gravel pits will allow business owners to use the gravel from the pit for a small fee.

  2. Step 2

Visit your local court house and obtain a business license for your area. This may cost you a small fee but it should not be very expensive. You will not be able to run an approved business until you are able to acquire a business license or permit.

  3. Step 3

Acquire gravel trucks. You will need to transport the gravel with this truck. Once business picks up, you will probably need to acquire more than one of these trucks. If you or someone else is planning to drive the dump truck, you will need a Commericial Driving License (CDL). Peterbilt, Sheboygan, and Mack are all truck companies who sale these trucks brand new.

  4. Step 4

Market your service. Place an advertisement in the local newspaper and on the radio stations in your area. Also, word of mouth is a great marketing tool. Place fliers in public places and get business cards made so you can pass this out to prospective clients.

  5. Step 5

Begin selling the gravel. You will eventually have many clients needing gravel for different projects. Hiring help may be a necessity if business gets extremely busy.
