Things You'll Need:
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Egg dye
- Containers for the Easter egg dye
- Food coloring if desired
- Paint - craft, tempera or watercolor
- Old tooth brushes
- Cut off paper cups
-
Step 1
Hard boil the eggs as you would for your regular Easter eggs.
-
Step 2
Decide whether to color the eggs. Speckled Easter eggs are attractive in their natural color, but are also very pretty if you dye them and speckle the eggs in a contrasting color.
-
Step 3
Cover your work surface with newspaper. It's a good idea to cover yourself too.
-
Step 4
Place Easter egg dye or paint into small containers such as cut off paper cups.
-
Step 5
Dip an old toothbrush into the Easter egg dye, food coloring or paint. It's best to use a color that contrasts with the egg color.
-
Step 6
Use your thumb or finger and run it over the top of the toothbrush bristles. This will splatter the dye or paint onto the eggs in small droplets of color.
-
Step 7
Wash the toothbrush, or use a different old toothbrush, and repeat the splattering with a different color on the same egg, if desired. Repeat the process on the other eggs using any color combinations that you like.
