Microsoft Word creates a hyperlink when you type in an existing Universal Resource Locator known as a URL and will also allow you to create customized links. The Word Hyperlink Checker is available for download from the Able Bits website and will allow you to manage and check hyperlinks in your Word document. The following steps will show you how to use the Microsoft Word Hyperlink checker.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Close out your Word sessions, download and install the Word Hyperlink Checker. It is compatible with Word 2000 and newer versions.

  2. Step 2

Restart Word. This time you should see a small window for Hyperlink Checker on top of your document. The menu bar has a downward pointing arrow that will allow you to customize the toolbar buttons to display and an "X" that will close the window. The icon below the menu bar will start Hyperlink Checker.

  3. Step 3

Close the Hyperlink Checker window until you need it. You can redisplay it by clicking the "Toolbar Options" icon on your toolbar, selecting "Add" or "Remove" buttons and then "Customize." Check the box for Ablebits.com and the Hyperlink Checker window will be displayed again.

  4. Step 4

Launch Hyperlink Checker. You have the option of displaying all of the hyperlinks or just the suspicious ones. Click on a suspicious link and a message will be displayed in the very bottom part of the window giving the reason the suspected link is considered suspicious.

  5. Step 5

Select the entire document, the current page or a range of pages to check hyperlinks for.
