How to Make an Oven Kosher
It is customary for Jewish people to keep kosher homes. In the kitchen, this means cooking milk and meat separately and only cooking kosher food. Take out all removable parts inside the oven including racks, shelves and the broiler, and clean them thoroughly with a chemical cleanser, scrubbing off any stubborn dirt with steel wool.

Spray the inside walls and door of the oven with a chemical cleanser and let the solution penetrate for several minutes. Then wipe it off to remove surface dirt. Carefully inspect hard-to-reach places, like corners and the area beneath the burners, to ensure that you remove all dirt.

Reassemble the oven and leave it unused for 24 hours.

Turn the oven onto the highest heat possible for 1 hour to make it kosher. There should be no food in the oven at this point.

Cook dairy and meat products separately in your newly kosher oven. If possible, use a separate oven for dairy and meat. A more lenient rule is to allow the oven to cool completely and to clean it thoroughly between dairy and meat cooking.

Tips & Warnings
Make a self-cleaning oven kosher by simply running it through a full cleaning cycle. You don't have to let it sit for 24 hours first or run it on high for an hour.
Some Jewish people believe it's necessary to hold a blowtorch to the interior of the oven to remove all traces of dirt in order to make it kosher. Talk to a rabbi to determine which standards she recommends.
