How to Work at the Gap

The GAP is a great place to work if you are interested in a retail career, or simply need a short-term job. Working at the GAP is great for extra money over the Holidays or while a student on a part-time basis. Many also make a profitable career out of working for the GAP and its sister stores, Banana Republic and Old Navy. Here's how to work for GAP stores.

Instructions

1. Check out the GAP, Inc. website online and explore the Careers section for more information. Find out if the stores near you have posted job listings, and apply online. If there are no openings posted online, check with the local store management to see if there are staff positions that need to be filled.

2. Dress professionally (wearing GAP clothing doesn't hurt) for your interview at the GAP. Be sure to highlight your retail or sales experience, and mention your own passion for clothing and fashion.

3. Get to know the merchandise at the GAP in order to better assist the customers. The GAP is known for its classic separates, khakis and jeans, crazy stripe winter hats and fun seasonal clothing items.

4. Stay on top of new arrivals and seasonal clothing as it gets to the GAP. Customers love to see the new items, and you can show off the store's selection.

5. Consider transferring to a Banana Republic store or an Old Navy outlet. Once you work at the GAP, it is easy to switch between stores in the company.
