How to Bond With a Pet Squirrel

Bonding with your pet squirrel will help to domesticate it so that it can take a place in your household with the other animals you own. The techniques for bonding can work quickly with diligent application.

Instructions

1. Acquire a squirrel while it is still young. A young squirrel will bond more quickly with an owner since it is still dependent on a caretaker. Bites and nips are also less frequent when bonding with a young squirrel.

2. Buy a bonding pouch in a pet store. Hang the pouch over your neck or body. Place the squirrel inside the pouch and close it. Put on a loose-fitting shirt over the pouch. A large, button up shirt will work.

3. Allow the squirrel to sleep or rest against you. Your squirrel will become accustomed to your scent and body. Keep your movements subtle and gentle. Hard moves, jumps or speech can frighten your squirrel.

4. Take the squirrel out of its pouch and put it back into its cage for a meal and exercise. Repeat the bonding pouch routine after two hours.

5. Let your squirrel hang out in your shirt pocket after it has successfully completed its bonding pouch sessions. Find an enclosed space and introduce your squirrel to your pocket. Be prepared for an initial escape attempt.

6. Keep using the bonding pouch until your squirrel trusts you enough to willingly crawl into your shirt pocket. Once your squirrel voluntarily crawls into your shirt pocket and shows no resistance, you will have successfully bonded with your squirrel.
