Choose your essential oil or blend. You may choose to use just one single oil, or mix up to three or four for your sauna oil treatment. Use an aromatherapy chart or consult a professional in your local health food store to choose your blend of oils. Some suggestions include eucalyptus to clear sinuses and soothe muscles, chamomile for insomnia, lavender for stress reduction and ylang ylang for energy.

2
Mix the oils before you enter the sauna, or the heat will decrease the potency of the oils before they can be used. Add 6 to 8 drops of essential oil to the water bucket and pour the sauna oil mixture over the coals as your normally do to create steam. The quantity of each oil will depend on your personal preference and treatment needs. Experiment with your mixtures.

Try different blends of the oils until you have found the one that suits you and that you enjoy the most. Keep a record of your blends so you will be able to reproduce them in the future. Do not remain in the sauna for more than 20 minutes at a time.
