Step 1
Choose where you would like to go. Almost any place in the mountains has a stream running through it that can provide the opportunity for you to fly fish. Fall River and the Big Thompson River that run through Rocky Mountain National Park, near Estes Park, is a popular destination for fly-fishing. Another popular fishing destination to go to is the Colorado Blue River near Breckinridge.

Step 2
Know what the fishing regulations are. You can buy a 1-day license, a 5-day license or an annual license. Some streams are private property so you must ask the landowner before you fish in them.
-
Step 3
Consider enrolling in a fly-fishing school. There are several located throughout the state. You can learn a lot about the sport, even if you consider yourself a seasoned pro.

Step 4
Make your travel reservations. Whether you are camping or staying in a hotel, the summer months are busy. It's best to make your reservations as early as possible. If you are flying into Denver, rent a vehicle for easy access to the many rivers of the state. If you want to get off the beaten path, rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
