How to Install a Wall-Mounted Drying Rack

There are many styles of drying racks, but a wall-mount drying rack is secured to the wall and holds more weight than other types. Use a wall-mounted drying rack to dry those special or delicate items that you can't put in the dryer.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Compare the different types of wall-mounted drying racks. From those that are solid wood construction to those that are made of chrome and plastic, there is a style to fit your need. The solid wood construction has pegs that pull out when in use and retract to stay out of the way. Because of its solid construction, this type of rack can hold heavy loads. The heavy-duty plastic rack has a chrome swing arm that collapses flat when not in use. There are also valet type wall-mount racks that offer more hanger space and can be used in the closet or in the laundry room to drip-dry clothing.
Step2
Read all manufacturer instructions before you hang the wall-mount drying rack. Familiarize yourself with the installation hardware, and make sure all parts are included with your wall-mount drying rack. Decide where the drying rack will be placed for your convenience. Make sure you have enough room under the drying rack to hang the clothes.
Step3
Use a stud finder to find the studs in your wall. Depending on the type of stud finder you have, you'll either hear a beep when the finder finds a stud, or a light will flash. You can also find studs the old-fashioned way by knocking on the walls. Plain wallboard sounds hollow until you tap on a stud and the sound turns solid. Because of the weight that will be placed on the wall-mounted drying rack, it must be mounted into a stud.
Step4
Mark the placement of the drying rack. Place the drying rack against the wall at the stud, then use a level to make sure your placement is even. After the drying rack is level, mark the wall through the hole that the screw will go into so the screw placement is on the stud. Do this for all the screw holes. Place the wall-mounted drying rack against the wall. Using a screw gun, attach the drying rack to the wall with the supplied wood screws.
