Clean first with a household cleaner and water. Always test the cleaner in an inconspicuous area of the aluminum to make sure you won't discolor the metal. Never used alkali-based cleaners, such as baking soda, as they will discolor aluminum. Avoid using steel wool or heavy abrasives on aluminum.

2
Use cream of tartar. Cream of tartar mixed with water will keep your cookware clean. Make sure you rinse the cookware. Never use polish on the food surface of your cookware, but polish can be used on the exterior of coffee pots and surfaces that do not come directly into contact with heat.

Apply polish to the surface of the aluminum after it dries. Use polish that is specially formulated for aluminum, such as Brasso or Nuvite. Put a small amount of polish on a soft rag. Apply the polish to the metal in small circular motions and rub it in lightly. Allow the polish to set for a few minutes or rinse, according to the product directions.

Dry the aluminum if you've rinsed it or buff the aluminum with a soft cloth if you've allowed the polish to set. If you rinse, make sure all parts are fully dried to prevent any streaking or spotting.
