When you combine cartoons with teaching reading, you have a combination that encourages kids to learn to read. Follow these steps to find cartoons that teach reading.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Watch PBS. The station gets educational grants to provide cartoons and shows that are educational. "Between the Lions" hosts a cast of characters designed to show kids the joy of reading. A reoccurring feature on the show called Gawain's Word teaches viewers how to combine sounds to form words. "Sesame Street" uses the letter of the day to teach reading.
Step2
Visit the website for PBS. You can get information on what time programs air in your area. The website offers a section for kids that offers synopsis of shows for parents, stories and games. Kids can play phonetic games with the lions from "Between the Lions." The page for "Sesame Street" connects you to Cookie Monster's Corner with games featured around the letter of the day.
Step3
Search for cartoons on Funschool Kaboose. Coloring pages contain cartoon pictures of things starting with each letter of the alphabet. In "Connect the Letters," kids play a game using letters to make a cartoon picture. Other games like "Haunted Alphabet" focus on seasonal cartoons that teach letter recognition. You can click the link for "Learn ABCs" to find the options available.
