How to Get Pregnant Following Anorexia

Women with eating disorders often have a hard time getting pregnant. However, if they establish a healthy lifestyle, they often can conceive without any trouble.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Return to a healthy weight. This is important to the health of your unborn child. Studies have proven that women who are underweight when they get pregnant are at a greater risk for miscarriages. Find out the average weight for a person your size and attain that.
Step2
Remain at that healthy weight for at least four months before trying to become pregnant.
Step3
Have yourself closely monitored by a family doctor. He should ensure that you are healthy enough to carry a baby to term. Get his OK before attempting conception.
Step4
Add more calcium to your diet. Anorexia probably has depleted your body's natural supply of calcium. You'll need to regenerate healthy levels of this mineral. You may be low on folic acid, which is also important for expectant moms. Add multivitamins to your daily diet before you get pregnant and continue them during your pregnancy.
Step5
Visit a nutritionist and establish a healthy, well-balanced diet at least four months before trying to conceive. Ask the nutritionist to emphasize foods that facilitate conception and healthy births. Continue the diet throughout the pregnancy.
