Teak is one of the most durable hardwoods for outdoor furniture. Left alone, it will weather to a beautiful silvery gray color over time. But you may want to periodically treat or clean your teak furniture to get rid of dirt build-up and the inevitable stains.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Try first gently wiping down your teak furniture with a soft damp cloth, and then buff with a dry cloth.

  2. Step 2

Use only a soft scrub brush to wash your teak furniture. Never use steel wool. Hard bristles may scratch or damage your furniture.

  3. Step 3

Wash the furniture with a mixture of warm water and a mild soap such as Murphy's Oil Soap. Scrub gently.

  4. Step 4

Rinse your furniture with a hose, never a pressure washer, which can damage your furniture.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the process if necessary to remove stains and stubborn deposits.

  6. Step 6

Use a teak brightener available from the Refinish Furniture website. They also suggest a yearly application of sealant to protect the furniture from the elements.

  7. Step 7

Get to stains immediately after they occur, especially bird deposits. They can permanently stain your furniture.
