Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Treasure Chest
- Shovel
- Paper
- Pen
Step1
Weather-proof your treasure chest. Coat the wood in a waterproof lacquer or paint before filling it.
Step2
Stake out a location, preferably somewhere that no one would expect. Places near populous areas, such as parking lots or business districts, are never a good idea. Find an area that's difficult to reach and is unlikely to be disturbed. Areas near large natural landmarks that represent animals or inanimate objects are preferable.
Step3
Maintain secrecy. Bring your chest to the location under the cover of night. Bury it by yourself. Trust no one.
Step4
Dig a hole that is at least four feet taller than the chest and wide enough for the receptacle to fit. Any more shallow than that and you run the risk of your treasure being exposed. Make sure you bury your treasure above the water table.
Step5
Bury your treasure. Pack the soil you've kicked up tightly and make sure it looks as though no one disturbed it. Rake the top so the soil looks consistent with the surrounding soil.
Step6
Draw your map and use symbols and natural landmarks as guides. Don't make its location too obvious to the average person. Draw directions to your treasure starting from an obvious landmark nearby.
