How to Collect Baseball Pennants

Baseball cards are the most popular baseball collectible, but other memorabilia, such as pennants, can be more fun to collect because they are easier to display.

Instructions

    • 1

Collect baseball pennants for a solid investment. The value of baseball cards tends to fluctuate rapidly. While you are unlikely to see huge gains in the value of a pennant, pennants will hold their value over time and probably increase gradually.

    • 2

Buy new pennants for the cheapest way to collect baseball pennants. Pennants made of felt can be purchased for as little as $5. Wool pennants can cost as much as $40, but they are more durable and more likely to increase in value over time. You can find new pennants from every team by going to the Baseball Flags and Pennants website and clicking on "MLB Pennants."

    • 3

Get some vintage baseball pennants for your collection. Pennants have been around since the 1940s and vintage pennants can be found in good shape for anywhere from $20 up to $100 for a vintage pennant in excellent condition from a popular team. Hundreds of vintage pennants are available at the Gasoline Alley Antiques website. Click on "Baseball Menu" and then "Pennants" for a selection.

    • 4

Look vintage pennants over for any damage before you buy. You may run into old pennants at flea markets, antique shops and baseball card stores. Before you buy a pennant, inspect it around the edges for pinholes and stains caused by adhesive tack.

    • 5

Store pennants properly when they are not on display. Store them in a dark, dry environment protected by plastic pennant protectors. Pennant protectors are available at baseball card stores and many stores that sell pennants.

    • 6

Display baseball pennants properly so they are not damaged. Instead of sticking to the wall with adhesive tack or pins, insert a dowel in the sleeve at the top of the pennant and hang the pennant with the dowel. You can also safely attach pennants to the wall by inserting them in a plastic pennant protector and using adhesive tack or pins to attach the protector to the wall.
