Things You'll Need:
- Empty 50-count CD case with spindle
- Measuring tape
- Empty toilet paper roll
- 4 used CDs or DVDs
- Box cutter
- Super glue
- Cable to be stored
- Nail
- Oven or lighter
-
Step 1
Measure the height spindle of the CD drum or case. Divide it into three sections, depending on the width of your cable. If the cable you are using is thin, the sections need to be 1- to 2-inches wide. Wider cable requires more room and wider sections.
-
Step 2
Mark your measurements on the toilet paper roll. Cut the toilet paper roll to match each measurement.
-
Step 3
Glue the toilet paper roll to the center of one of the CDs. Glue another CD to the top of the roll. This looks like a spool when finished gluing.
-
Step 4
Cut a small hole in the toilet paper roll. This allows you to thread some of the cable into the hold to hold it into place. Slide the cable into the hole and wrap it around tightly. Repeat for the other two disks.
-
Step 5
Slide one spool onto the spindle or bottom of the CD drum. Place the last toilet paper roll section on top of the first spool. Cut a small hole into it to slide the cable into. Wrap the cable around the toilet paper roll.
-
Step 6
Place the last spool onto the spindle.
-
Step 7
Slide the plastic outer case onto the cable holder. Heat the tip of the nail over the oven or with a lighter. Melt a hole in the middle of each section of the holder, large enough for the cable to come thread through.
-
Step 8
Remove the plastic top. Feed the end of each cable into the appropriate hole. Slide the plastic top back onto the spindle to complete the cable holder.
