Travel west of Austin, the state capital of Texas, and you will find yourself in an area unlike anywhere else in the state. Whether you are visiting from out of state or hail from the area, it's easy to find your way into Texas hill country.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Spill the wine. Texas hill country is home to over 40 wineries, which produce everything from Chardonnay and Cabernet to Syrahs, Tempranillos and Grenache. Swing by one of the many vineyards, as well. Texas Hills Vineyard and Driftwood Vineyards are two of the biggest and most frequently visited. Call ahead if you are planning on visiting a winery. Many are open by appointment only.

  2. Step 2

Engage your inner explorer. Visit some of the plentiful caves in the area. The Inner Space Caverns and Natural Bridge Caverns draw people year round.

  3. Step 3

Experience some of the best country music in the state. Many of Austin's most accomplished musicians perform cosmic cowboy music in this area.

  4. Step 4

Sleep at one of the finer resorts or bed and breakfasts. The Horseshoe Bay Resort is a great way to get pampered after a long day on the road.
