Road constructions jobs are high-paying positions and very sought after. The ever-expanding number of cars and trucks on our highway systems is causing a high demand for road construction workers. Here's how to apply for a road construction job.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a resume of your experience and education. List any jobs you have had that are even remotely related to road construction. List at least three references.

  2. Step 2

Do an Internet search and post your resume with some online job search agencies.

  3. Step 3

Check with your state employment agency to find companies that have jobs or look in the classified ads in the local paper.

  4. Step 4

Call or drive out to the job site and ask the first person you meet, probably the flagger, where to get an application. Be careful not to impede the work or get in the way of heavy equipment on the jobs.

  5. Step 5

Fill out the application and attach your resume to it. Be neat and thorough. Return the application promptly.

  6. Step 6

Be on time for any interviews you are called for. Dress neatly, but wear work clothes. Have some questions ready for the interviewer. Show an eagerness to work hard and learn.

  7. Step 7

Expect to start at the bottom unless you have prior experience or schooling.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ensure you ask the people you list if they will give you a good reference and only list those who say they will.
  • Road construction is seasonal work. Be ready to travel from site to site and endure periods of unemployment.
  • Road construction jobs involve working in very adverse conditions, including dust, noise, heavy lifting, and all kinds of weather, so be prepared with the proper personal protective equipment.
