Instructions

    • 1

Measure 5 1/4 inches from the bottom of the 2-liter bottle. Mark this line with a permanent marker. Make the line around the circumference of the bottle.

    • 2

Cut the bottle along the line with the utility knife. Sand the rough edges until they are smooth.

    • 3

Sand the top of the bottle so the spray paint adheres better to the plastic.

    • 4

Spray paint the top of the bottle with the black paint. Cover it completely. Use multiple coats if needed. Allow each coat to dry before continuing. The black spray paint keeps the sun from damaging the roots of the plant.

    • 5

Measure 2 inches from the bottom of the 5-1/4-inch piece from Step 1. Mark the 2-inch spot with the permanent marker. Feed the T-shirt through the mouth of the bottle's top piece. This works as a wick. The plant pulls water from the T-shirt or cotton material.

    • 6

Fill the bottle up to the 2-inch with water. Slide the top piece upside down into the bottom piece. Fill the top with potting soil. Place your plant into the planter. Water the plant so the soil settles. Add more soil if needed.
