Finding a way to store books on a bookshelf without spending a lot of money on bookends does not have to be difficult. With a little extra work, a CD jewel case works well as a bookend. This CD case bookend is inexpensive and is a great way to recycle old CD cases.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • CD jewel case
  • Super glue
  • 2 heavy books or heavy square objects
  • Pliers
Step1
Open the front of the CD case. Remove the front from of the case. There are small divots holding the top into the bottom. Pop them out of place to release the top from the bottom.
Step2
Turn the bottom piece upside down. Place the top into position at a 90-degree angle to the bottom. This makes an "L" shape.
Step3
Place super glue on the edges of the CD case where the two pieces meet. Place a heavy object on the bottom of the case. Push another heavy object against the corner to hold the CD case at the 90-degree angle. Keep the heavy objects in place until the glue is dry.
Step4
Cut off any pieces of glue that stick out after it dries. Pay attention to any pieces on the top lid so the books, CDs or DVDs slide over the CD case without getting stuck on the dried glue.
Step5
Place the objects on the bookshelf. Slide the top of the CD case bookend under the books until the case is pressed up against the last book. This holds the books in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase new CD jewel cases for the bookend project or use an old jewel case. The cases come in a variety of different colors if you want to add color to the bookcase.
